The Microsoft test 70-270 measures an individual’s ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot Windows XP Professional as a desktop operating system in any network environment, particularly medium to very large computing environments. Before taking the 70-270 test, you should practice the following:

  1. Create partitions in a hard disk using the FDISK command and format partitions in FAT, FAT32, and NTFS file systems.
  2. Install Windows XP Professional on a computer. Installation includes:
    • Clean installation

    • Upgrade
    • Deployment of service pack
  3. Work on different command line utilities and applications required to manage the operating system.
  4. Install and configure TCP/IP protocol suite.
  5. Make a Windows 2000 domain-based network of two computers. Install Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory in one computer and Windows XP Professional on the second computer and join the existing domain.
  6. Install some peripheral devices such as CD-ROM drive and scanner in the client computer. Install drivers of these devices.
  7. Configure power management features in the client computer.
  8. Configure driver signing, schedule tasks, and go through with various options required to configure offline files.
  9. Create a hardware profile.
  10. Create a user profile. User profile includes local, roaming, and mandatory user profiles.
  11. Create a VPN connection.
  12. Implement EFS and experiment on its usage.
